The Audacity of Her

How to Stop Shrinking and Start Leading Out Loud
YOU WERE NEVER TOO MUCH.
THEY JUST ASKED FOR TOO LITTLE.

You thought if you stayed under the radar, you’d be safe from being targeted, from being fired, from feeling that you were not good enough.

At different points in your career, you received feedback that wasn’t about the work itself but about how others perceive you, often shaped more by their comfort than by your performance.

So you taught yourself to become smaller to stay safe.
It didn’t work.

Now is the time to lead without shrinking. The Audacity of Her shows you how to recognize the patterns you’ve been adjusting to and decide what deserves to shape you. Grounded in behavioral science and brought to life through the stories of women across roles, industries, and contexts, Sonia Vora offers a clear approach to leading out loud with compassion and clarity without reshaping yourself to meet shifting expectations.

Discover how to measure the cost of harmful feedback. Learn to recognize patterns that repeat across cultures. Explore how to identify what’s true and decide what to do with it. The Audacity of Her explores what happens when women refuse to shrink to fit and lead on their own terms.

The Audacity of Her is available for pre-order now.

A little something for saying yes early.

Pre-order The Audacity of Her and I’ll send you An Audacious Guide to Giving & Receiving Feedback, an exclusive two-page guide created just for early readers.

It’s a practical companion to some of the ideas in the book, with questions and prompts to help you get more from the feedback you receive and give feedback that helps other people contribute more fully.

It’s only available as a pre-order thank-you.

The Audacity of Her didn’t begin or end with a book. On Substack, I write about the ideas behind it, the experiences that shaped it and what it means to lead without letting other people’s definitions become your own.

You’ll also find Scale & Soul, where I explore a broader question I’ve spent much of my career thinking about: how do we build organizations that perform without losing sight of the people inside them?

Planning a book club, team conversation or larger organizational order? Let me know what you’re considering.

Sonia S. Vora is a former Chief Human Resources Officer, leadership advisor and writer whose work sits at the intersection of human potential and organizational performance.

Over a career spanning investment banking, strategy consulting and senior leadership roles, she has seen how easily talented people can begin editing themselves in response to the expectations, assumptions and feedback around them.

The Audacity of Her grew from both that professional experience and Sonia’s own reckoning with what happens when we allow other people to define the boundaries of who we can become. Today, through her writing and advisory work, she helps people and organizations create the conditions for fuller contribution.

Sonia holds an MBA from Georgetown University and lives in Seattle.
